Goals

This project aims to directly address the feedback between water resources and Italy's socioeconomic system, which largely relies on imports for intermediate and final consumption and, then on virtual water. The MUST4Water project aims to combine, for Italy, the outcomes coming from global and grid-scale models with a new Regional Economic and Water model for Italy (REWIND) that combines sub-national input-output (IO) tables with a system dynamics approach. The overall goal of this project is to develop a new multi-scale modelization approach with a focus on the impact of technological progress on water efficiency. The final aim is providing quantitative evidence to support policy decisions and stakeholders awareness. It will compare alternative climate-technology-policy scenarios through multiple socioeconomic and environmental indicators. Stakeholders will be involved in evaluating goal priorities and improving the model design.
